About Kosterina
Kosterina was founded in 2016 by Katina Mountanos, who grew up in a Greek American family and spent summers in her father’s hometown of Koroni in Southern Greece. After struggling to find an American supermarket olive oil that matched the rich, fresh oil her family pressed from their own groves, she set out to build one. The brand name blends her own name with that of her husband, Kostas, and the company partners with farmers in Southern Greece to make a premium extra virgin olive oil for the United States market. Kosterina started as a passion project and later launched into Whole Foods Market.
The flagship Original Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made from single origin, early harvest Koroneiki olives that are cold pressed the same day they are picked, and it carries a polyphenol level of 500 or more mg/kg, well above the 55 mg/kg minimum required for an oil to be labeled extra virgin. The lineup has since grown to include an Everyday Organic EVOO, flavored oils such as Greek Herb and Lemon and Garlic, balsamic vinegars from Modena, crushed fruit vinegars, and snacking olives. Demand for products like these is rising as the broader category expands. The global olive oil market was valued in the billions of dollars and is projected to keep growing through the next decade, according to Fortune Business Insights (2024).
| ✓ | Pro: High polyphenol, early harvest oil with a verified count of 500 or more mg/kg in the Original, far above the legal extra virgin minimum. |
| ✓ | Pro: Single origin and transparent sourcing from Koroneiki olives in Southern Greece, cold pressed the day they are harvested. |
| ✓ | Pro: A genuine Mediterranean pantry range beyond oil, including balsamic and crushed fruit vinegars, snacking olives, and gift sets. |
| ✓ | Pro: Available in Whole Foods Market and other retailers, which makes the brand easy to find and verify offline. |
| ✕ | Con: Premium pricing, with everyday cooking use feeling steep at roughly $25 to $32 per 500ml bottle. |
| ✕ | Con: A flat shipping fee of about $8.99 applies below the free shipping threshold, which raises the effective cost of a single bottle. |
| ✕ | Con: Some shoppers report operational growing pains, such as handling of damaged shipments or pouring from larger tins. |

Yes, for most new buyers the 15% off first order discount is the single best way to try Kosterina without paying full price. On a $32 bottle of the Original, 15% trims about $4.80, and on a multi bottle bundle the savings grow quickly. Because Kosterina sits at the premium end of the olive oil shelf, that first order discount is meaningful, and it stacks well with reaching the free shipping threshold so you avoid the flat shipping fee. If you plan to buy regularly, you can also layer in the Subscribe and Save option for ongoing savings of around 10%. For a one time taste test of a high polyphenol Greek EVOO, signing up to unlock 15% off is an easy call.
