Why can I not see my laser line outside?
Because daylight overwhelms it, and no consumer laser is bright enough to beat the sun. This is normal rather than a fault. The solution is a receiver, a detector that rides on a rod and beeps when it crosses the beam, which also extends usable range far beyond what the eye can follow. If you intend to work outdoors, buy a tool that includes a receiver or accepts one.
What is a transit level used for in 2026?
Setting out and elevation work across a site: footings, drainage falls, retaining walls, deck posts and anything where two points tens of metres apart must relate correctly. It works with a graduated rod and a second person, or a receiver, and it reads differences in height rather than checking a single surface.
